MORE ABOUT ME
I grew up in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape and in 2002 I moved to Cape Town to study physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town. After completing my studies, I returned to Port Elizabeth for my community service, which was a wonderful experience with so many learning opportunities through a wide range of specialities.
My husband and I moved to the United Kingdom in 2007, for what we expected to be 2 years but turned into a 16 year adventure! I settled in at a wonderful specialist orthopaedic hospital, where I was able to build my career as the role progressed. I enjoyed working within both the outpatient and hospital setting and decided to embark on a Masters degree in Musculoskeletal medicine, which I completed in 2013. This allowed me to further my interest in research and service development and I enjoyed working with the greater multidisciplinary team to improve the service we could offer our patients. It also allowed me to work as an extended scope practitioner, triaging patients in the secondary care setting, where we could offer both physiotherapy and surgery.
In 2018 I joined the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT) and together with my colleagues we set up a hand unit within our outpatient department. I was fortunate enough to be able to work within a team that looked at pioneering pyro-carbon replacements in the hand and wrist within our region, both to make advances on current practice, but also to research and advise on the complications of these.
While living in the UK we had 2 beautiful girls and thoroughly enjoyed our travels, exploring and enjoying the amazing English countryside. Following Covid we realised that our hearts were still very much in South Africa and we decided to move home. We were fortunate enough to spend a year travelling this beautiful country and finally decided that Hermanus was our slice of Heaven and settled here! I enjoy hiking, trail running and paddle boarding to take in all the spectacular views!
I truly believe that adding small changes to daily life can hugely impact our quality of life as time goes on. I think Hermanus is a wonderful setting for people to live life to the fullest, embracing activity and keeping healthy through he many activities that it has to offer.
